I just feel like the original controls just require a few minutes of patience to get used to and bam, you've got yourself one of the greatest games of all time at your fingertips. I do appreciate the enhanced controls though, like I said it opened up the game to more people, which is great. Plus, you could argue that SyS1 isn't really a first person shooter in the same sense that Doom is, it's an action adventure game that happens to have ranged combat from a first person perspective, and the controls fit that. Using the mouse cursor as an extension of the player's hand(s) just feels really good, like how a good VR game feels nowadays. The game's levels and combat encounters were clearly designed around the scheme, and I just like how versatile and tactile it feels. In my opinion, it's not THAT complicated, it's just unusual. I might be in the minority though, because I actually prefer the original control scheme. I know many consider the original control setup for System Shock to be strange and unuserfriendly, and luckily the mouse look mod and then eventually the enhanced edition's enhanced controls made it far more approachable.
